Measurement
Best Fitting Shirt Measurements
We know that taking measurements can be a bit tedious, so we’ve worked hard to make it as easy for you as possible. Please help us to create the perfect fit for you by reading the instructions carefully and giving us the correct measurements.
What will you need?
1. A fabric measuring tape. Please avoid string or metallic measuring tape.
2. A best fitting shirt.
When taking measurements:
1. Always take the true measurement. Never ever! pull the measuring tape tight or give any ease.
The key to keeping this process short and simple is to not think about it too much – don’t fret over ¼ of an inch – all the measurements will be scrutinized by our Master Tailor and he will get back to you if something is out of the ordinary. Just be consistent in how you measure - Ideally, taking a few sets of measurements for those who are novices at this is the best thing to do.
Shirt Length
How to Measure: Measure from just next to the collar, where the seam is on the shoulder, to the bottom hem.
The measurement you enter here will be the length of your finished shirt.
Chest
How to Measure: Measure with the shirt facing up, smoothed out, and buttoned, measure from under the armhole edge on the left, across the chest to under the right armhole edge on the right.
The measurement you enter here will be the measurement of your finished shirt's chest.
Important Note: Due to the extra material & workmanship costs involved, we charge an extra amount for any suit with a chest size greater than 43 inches. If applicable, additional charges will add £3/$5.
Waist
How to Measure: At the waistline of the shirt, measure from the left edge across to the right edge.
The measurement you enter here will be the measurement of your finished shirt's waist.
Hips
How to Measure: At shirt bottom, measure from the left edge across to the right edge.
The measurement you enter here will be the measurement of your finished shirt's hip.
Shoulder Width
How to Measure:Place shirt down so the back is facing you, smoothed out. Place tape measure at the seam of the left shoulder and measure across to the seam of the right shoulder.
The measurement you enter here will be the measurement of your finished shirt's shoulder.
Collar Width
How to Measure:Un-button shirt. Place shirt down so the back is facing you. Flip up the collar to expose the neckband, measure from the middle of the button across to the middle of the buttonhole.
The measurement you enter here will be the measurement of your finished shirt's collar.
Sleeve Length (Long)
How to Measure:Measure from the shoulder seam along the upper edge of the sleeve to the end of the cuff. If you are taking measurement from French (double) cuff shirt, please make sure to fold the cuff prior to the measurement.
The measurement you enter here will be the length of your finished shirt's sleeve.
Sleeve Length (Short)
How to Measure:Measure from the shoulder seam along the upper edge of the sleeve to the end of the cuff. If you are taking measurement from French (double) cuff shirt, please make sure to fold the cuff prior to the measurement.
The measurement you enter here will be the length of your finished shirt's sleeve.
Armhole

Please help us create the perfect fit for you, by reading the instructions carefully and giving us the correct measurements. Please make sure you provide us with the correct measurements, it is extremely important!
For the first time customer, who is not sure of self-measurements, we would suggest you to send us a sample of your favorite outfit, so we can copy the existing measurements, with alterations, if required, and we will mail it back to you with your order.
What will you need?
1. A fabric measuring tape. Please avoid string or metallic measuring tape.
2. Assistance from another person, as it can be very difficult to take accurate measurements yourself alone with the necessary accuracy
When taking measurements:
1. Always take the true measurement. Never pull the measuring tape too tight, or give it too much ease.
2. All measurements should be made to nearest ½ inch.
3. When taking the measurements stand upright, don't slouch or bend over to read the inches as this won't give you a true measurement.
4. Please provide us your actual measurements and don't just mention off-the-rack sizes that you wear. A custom tailored item is designed to fit your unique specifications, rather than the rough-and-ready approximations and averages used in off-the-rack clothing.
The key to keeping this process short and simple is to not think about it too much – don’t fret over ¼ of an inch – all the measurements will be scrutinised by our Master Tailor and we will get back to you if something seems out of the ordinary.
Shirt
In order to get the type of fit that you like, we would ask you to indicate your preferred fit style below. Our tailors would then add the appropriate allowances to improve the fit of the finished Shirt.
1. The classic fit adds 3-4 inches of fullness to chest, waist and hip measures (for e.g. if the actual chest measurement is 42 inches then choosing the classic fit would give a chest of 45-46 inches for the finished Shirt ).
2. Slim fit reduces this allowance to 2-3 inches.
3. The extra full option increases it to 5-6 inches.
Shirt Length
What to wear: Shirt (Not Jacket)
How to Measure: Measure vertically down your front, from next to the collar on your shirt, where the seam is on your shoulder, to the point level with your thumb knuckle (adopt an upright position with both arms on your sides). Should you require a longer/shorter Shirt please measure accordingly.
You can also use a Shirt you like as a guide.
This measurement helps us determine your Shirt length, but is not the only factor we consider. We also look at your height, and the type of jacket we are tailoring for you.
Chest
What to wear: Shirt (Not Jacket)
How to Measure:Measure around your chest at its widest point, roughly at the level of the nipples. Ensure the measuring tape passes underneath your armpits and over your shoulder blades at the back. Don't keep the measuring tape to be higher in the front or back, it must be level all the way around and should be snug, not pulling tightly, and not loose.
This measurement is a body measurement and there will be an allowance added to it to make your jacket, the allowance will be added according to the fit that you chose.
Important Note: Due to the extra material & workmanship costs involved, we charge an extra amount for any suit with a chest size greater than 43 inches. If applicable, additional charges will add $5.
Stomach
What to wear: Shirt (Not Jacket)
How to Measure: Measure around your waist roughly at the level of your navel or right below your bottom ribs, whichever is larger. As a guide this measurement should be where you are widest. Don't keep the measuring tape to be higher in the front or back, it must be level all the way around and don't breathe in!
This measurement is a body measurement and there will be an allowance added to it to make your jacket, the allowance will be added according to the fit that you chose.
Seat/Hips
What to wear: Shirt (Not Jacket)
How to Measure: Measure around your hips and buttocks at their widest point. Make sure you don't have anything in your pockets; otherwise you may get a measurement which is too large.
Shoulder Width
What to Wear: Shirt
How to Measure:
1. Stand from the back and visualize where the end of the shoulder is.
2. The end of the shoulder is a knobby area where the vertical plane of the arm intersects the horizontal plane of the shoulder.
3. Measure from the left end of the shoulder to the right end of the shoulder.
4. Ensure you take the curved contour over the top of the shoulders as shown.
This is the measurement we see taken wrong most often – to check this measurement wear your best fitting jacket and take this measurement again (from shoulder end to shoulder end)– now look at both - your jacket measurement should be the same to ½ inch larger. If it’s not, ask yourself is this jacket too large or too small, and from this you can now more accurately determine your shoulder size.
Sleeve Length
What to wear: Shirt (Not Jacket)
How to Measure: The sleeve measurement should be taken from exactly the same point you used earlier for the "Shoulder" measurement. (Tip: Place a safety pin where you determined the shoulder points to be on measurement above) Do NOT bend your arm and measure to a point at the wrist where you want the sleeve to end. Sleeve length is a personal choice, though recommended to end at the wrist joint so that shirt cuffs can show.
If you are unsure take the measurement from an existing suit jacket. Take the measurement from the tip of the sleeve to the cuff edge.
Bicep
What to wear: Shirt (Not Jacket)
How to Measure:Measure around the fullest part of the bicep with the arms by your side. Please note there is no need to flex, unless you are a body builder.
Waist
What to wear: Shirt (Not Jacket)
How to Measure: Measure around the fullest part of the wrist.
Neck
What to wear: Shirt (Not Jacket)
How to Measure: Measure around your neck at the height where your collar, if buttoned, would be This measurement should be taken along the lower section of the neck, below your Adams Apple and above your Sternal Notch. The tape should be comfortably touching the skin, with enough room so that you do not feel restrict.
